F-111
The F-111, was used by the US Air Force beginning in 1967. The F-111 can exceed twice the speed of sound (Mach 2) by sweeping its wings rearward while in flight. The wings are swept forward for takeoffs, landings or slow speed flight. F-111s were used by the Air Force for tactical bombing in Vietnam. It was unofficially known as the “aardvark” until it’s retirement ceremony in 1996 when the name became official.
